x. The dripping on his neck. Water...in the purest of all it's forms, rain. Not in a puddle with oil or a pond with fish. Not in a river with particles. But rain, when nothing had yet touched it. Like a puppy pushed from the womb. Before the birth is licked away. A clean slate, plain and innocent. No memories, no breath. Not until the fluid is cleaned away. Ridley closed his deep brown eyes and let his bright pink tongue snake out. Within moments, a drip of rain from the small drizzle tapped his tongue and ran down his throat. Ridley opened his eyes and vision flooded his thoughts, claiming them as its own. He breathed deep and smiled faintly. Spring.

The grass seemed to stretch on forever. Forever... It was bright green, so bright of green that one might mistake it for a fake. The grass was dancing in the fierce wind, bending and waving. Rain collected on the blades, sliding down. Ridley breathed in. The wonderful mixture of smells from sweet grass, smooth rain, and crisp wind. Even his tight, slick, short pelt blew in the wind, if only slightly. He raised his head high, flicking his ears back. The fang dangling from the small loop on his silver earring swung, rubbing against his cropped ear. Ridley's dark eyes scanned the horizon. Green grass below and blue skies above. The only thing to break the two colors were the pearly white windmills, huge structures spinning busily. Although there were even more of them where he came from, he never did understand their purpose. Maybe to entertain the humans or point the way to something? Who knows? Point the way...

The rain was starting to let up. The drips on the back of Ridley's neck became fewer and fewer. It was about time to move on. Thick and dense muscles rippled in waves as Ridley stretched. Right front leg forward, stomp the paw. He stiffened his leg, tensing the muscles. It felt so good... Then he put his other front leg ahead and did the same. He then shifted his chest forward, hind legs hanging back where he left them. His front legs supported almost all of his weight, which was a massive amount due to his insane muscle mass. Ridley stretched his neck and his chest, then his hind legs. Hind legs then joined and the majestic dog was now off.

The windmills had to point somewhere. And there was no point in snaking all through the town to pop up in the countryside and have it turn out to be barren and windy. It couldn't be. Follow the windmills, Ridley. Ridley breathed in then out hard. One paw-step. A second. A third. Another. And another. The large Beauceron was now up to a swift speed. Like a horse's gallop. Ridley knew how tiring running was and he wanted to be prepared for whatever life would slap in his face, not tired out and panting. It was like walking on air now, his legs were used to the galloping so he hardly had to think to keep up his pace. His tail was down, but at an angle. Wind tickled its underside and Ridley let it trail like a banner, waving for a country's arrival.

What would be beyond the grass? Ridley hadn't walked long when he saw a small speck on the horizon. He stopped for a minute, trying to make out the figure. He broke into a run now, muscles heaving all his weight forward. He ran for a while until the image became clear. He jumped, turning his body sideways. His legs were held stiff, making him skid to a halt. Ridley squinted his eyes to find that it was a building, a large red one. But why a building out in the middle of nowhere? Ridley decided to walk over there and see what it was all about. Step one, step two, three, four, and more.

The great black and tan dog walked for quite a while until he was only about a yard away from the mysterious building. His big black muzzle raised. The medium-brown color of his markings stood out prominently from the sleek black color of the rest of his fur. His nose looked like an onyx stone, smooth and a deep ebony-black color. The sun's radiance bounced off his nose, which he always kept wet by licking. Ridley Devel's nose flickered left and right and his nostrils sucked like a vacuum. Like sight to a human, a dog's first choice of collecting information was smell. But smell was only one sense and it could only provide so much. It was time to probe deeper.

Ridley's paws carried him to a fence. It was wooden and somewhat high. He could easily jump right over it but first he looked up. Atop the wood was barbed wire. Most novice dogs wouldn't understand what the black spokes meant, but Ridley knew very well what barbs could do. All dogs are young and foolish at one point, and that was when Ridley had tried to jump a barbed wire fence. They had dug their teeth deep into the pads of his paws, a sensitive place for a dog. He remembered clearly the pain, the blood drooling off the fence. He also remembered returning to the same fence, the blood stains old and faded. He remembered the slits they'd left, and as he looked at his paw now, they were gone, perfectly healed. Barbed wire secreted a sense of deep-rooted fear, but barbed wire meant something was hidden inside the premises. What was it? Curiosity tugged at the male's heart. Curiosity killed the cat.

Ridley tried to look for an opening in the fence, running his nose along each slat. Finally, he found a loose one. It wasn't able to be swung open though. Dig, Ridley, dig! Tan paws scrabbled at the earth under the slat. Black claws pulled dirt away. Ridley was genuinely surprised about how easily the soil was removed. It must have been an area that had been repaired. Another dog probably found the loose slat the same way as Ridley, then dug out a tunnel to break in. Ridley momentarily thanked that dog, then smiled when his task was successful. Ridley nosed open the slat, swinging it to the left. He oped his snout in, then stole a huge sniff. A familiar scent. Sheep. Ridley was confused. Sheep was a smell he had never scented before, but it seemed to run through his blood. It awakened an urge in him. Herd.

Ridley knew what herding was, other dogs had told him. It was like hunting, a skill he had now mastered, only you herded large flocks or herds of prey and you kept your prey alive and drove it to a human. Ridley was a herding breed, the activity ran through his veins. But his blood was dormant. Now humans were mostly wiped off, only a few here and there. This barn and the pasture, under the smell of sheep, smelled of hume. Ridley wasn't hungry, he didn't want any of the sheep, but now he was cautious. When you add human to sheep it always equals danger for carnivores. Ridley slunk away, the loose board hitting his nose as he pulled away. Ridley wasn't sure what to do now.

He sat down. He wriggled a bit. His collar was itchy. He scratched it. His ear flicked. He sucked in his cheeks. His tongue was dry. He was thirsty. The rain was over, and with flat terra there were no puddles to drink from. Ridley ran back to the loose board. He smelled water inside the fence. He had to get in somehow. His claws dug out more dirt. More and more, hurling it behind him into the grass. After was seemed like hours, Ridley finally had enough space to barely wiggle in. But it was good enough. No use in wasting more time for comfort. He plunged into the tunnel head-first, pushing it through. Then his front legs, then his chest, then his hips, hind legs, tail. He was in.

The big black dog easily located the water, elixir to his thirst. It was held in a trough, some sort of man-made container. The water was fresh, probably thanks to the rain earlier. Ridley walked over and his pink tongue adapted to be shaped like a scoop. His tongue shoveled water in and his need was doused, quenched. SLAM! Ridley yelped, yielding to the unexpected noise. Not hanging around to see what it was, he pushed halfway through the tunnel. He had to struggle to make it through. Now he regretted keeping the escape tight. He made his way through, whining all the time. He hushed himself and ran under a faded yellow truck. It was dirty and smelled awful, like gasoline. Ridley hung onto the ground below him, grip tight, muscles tense, and pupils huge. He shuddered but stayed as quiet as possible. A quiet slam startled the already frightened dog, but the dreaded sense of danger faded. Ridley stayed under the truck. You can never be too careful...

[xx] Wind. Was it her fault she hated wind? With a passion. Her blue hued eyes closed as she bent her head down, trying her best to avoid the cool draft. Small droplets of rain pelted the female's body making her look sodden, and more skinny then necessary. her paws padded on the ground as she ignored the terrible weather and walked on, this place seemed rather peaceful, and it seemed like she could get some quiet time. The breeze didn't quit as she sat her rump down, refusing to let mother nature look like shit on paws. She snarled at the sky while her brows furrowed and her wet paws started to smell more and more like mud. The ground began to feel soft as she padded her paws on the ground, still sitting. Damn it, the weather must have hated her, since it only got more harsh as she glared at the sky, eves full of hate.

[xx] The female soon figured it was quite pointless so she stood up and shook her coat out, ears flopping and hitting each side of her head, multiple times before she stopped and licked her chops from all of the rain that had hit her muzzle. No, don't get me wrong, Maine actually did like the rain, just not when she wasn't in the mood for it. And when she came around her bloody time. Hah, speak of the devil. She snarled, if it was one thing Maine actually hated, it was the season Spring. And, unlike most sleazy females who liked the fucking, and the aftermath, she hated it. And hated the extra attention she retrieved. Her neck bent slightly to let her pink, salmon colored tongue cover over her paws, cleaning them off and making them look normal once again.

[xx] Confidence? Is that what that annoying word was called? That stupid fucking trait that all of those slutty females had? yeah, that was what it was. Well, all of those female's were pretty, and that was how Maine had talked herself out of even trying to hang out with them. They were so different. And, she knew they would never accept her unless she became a slut herself, and there wasn't a way she was planning on doing that. Her coat was now fully soaked, for she was sitting in the grass, cleaning her paws off, and she had finally just got up and stared at herself in a small puddle situated in the mud. A slightly murky reflection stared back at her, and she closed her eyes, not repulsed by her image, but sick of seeing it.

[xx] Everything was the same, everything then stopped. And it felt like the world quit spinning round and round. her eyes focused on one blurred image and she squinted her eyes, and blurred her vision, trying to find out if she was going crazy.. or just going crazy. Either way was perfectly fine for her. She snickered, crazy was always more fun. A black figure stood there, slight tan in his color. Or it just could have been the grass, for her vision really wasn't the best, and she couldn't see that far ahead without having to squint her eyes, which only blurred her vision even more. She silently tucked her tail between her legs and then slunk forward, each paw taking a gingerly, silent step. Little did she know, she was walking towards something, which wasn't another of her type.

[xx] She wished the sun had already set, for it it had then she would have the cover of night to help her curious search to find this odd creature standing in the tall grass. Her nose lifted as she closed her eyes to small slits, scenting an odd smell. It didn't seem like canine, so she instantly became more cautious with her body and let herself become more silent and lowered herself to the ground, where the fur on her lower body was rubbing against the ground with small brushing sounds. With each steps, she became faster and faster, gaining her confidence with how sneaky she was. Her paws extended gracefully until she was right behind the creature.

[xx] CRACK! Maine cringed in fear, since she was right behind the strange animal and then let out an aggravated bark. FUCK! she screamed and then tucked her tail between her legs. Anger bubbled up in her body as she began to hold her breath. And although as much as she wished the creature hadn't heard her, it had, and turned around. It seemed like it had turned around in slow motion, as the female was just waiting for her demise. What was that animal? It slowly turned clock-wise, to face the smaller Border Collie and then a squeal of shock escaped her jaws. Her eyes widened unwillingly and then she fell to the ground instantly, losing breath as she knocked the air out of her.

[xx] She lay on the ground as the heavy breathing creature came over her. Her eyes scanned the beast, which had sharp claws, and teeth. It looked like a killer human. Her eyes flickered as her body shook, the creature letting out an angry roar. Maine then let out a bark, to challenge the animal, and slowly stood up, her body still shaking with fear. Finally, after scenting the thing, she realized it was a bear. Her eyes closed, she couldn't protect herself from a bear, but she was faster then one, probably having some kind of Greyhound in her lines. Her legs shook, and begged her to run away, but the lithe female only stood there, in shock and wondering what to do.

[xx] She snarled, as the bear took a swipe at her and was able to get at her ribs. Eyes closed in pain, as they looked back at the claws who had put her through pain, anger flaring through her mind. A small chuck of her fur was clumped around her claws, bloodied and matted. The bear too yet another swipe, and she was able to dodge this hit, pride bubbling in her eyes. She began to feel some confidence, so she walked a bit around the male, her tail raised, circling the bear until he decided to get on all fours. She then took the opportunity when it was there, so she jumped upon the animal's back dug her jaws into the back of his neck.

[xx] The bear began to stand up, and shake, forcing Maine to let go, and fly off his back. With such force, the bear threw her against a near by tree, which had knocked the wind out of her and almost knocked her out. Dizzy, she tried to make an attempt to stand, but was unable to, just falling on her body. Deep, ragged gasps of breath were taken, one because she was out of breath, and two; because she found it hard to breathe. The bear had walked away, finding the dog uninteresting, and left Maine alone with her limp body against a tree. Her eyes opened slowly, and another figure was seen, not too far away. And this time he smelt like dog.

[xx] But then she also smelt fear. It might have been from her, or the male, but she had no way to tell who it was. Remembering the pain she had been in a couple of minutes ago, she looked at her side, which was quite bloody now, and still bleeding terribly. Her eyes closed in terror and then she stood up slowly, getting her breathing back to normal before she walked anywhere. Finally, she stood up and walked towards the male, eyes squinted until she came to a truck. uhhhhh.. ar ya okayy, misterrr?

Numb. Enchor.
You cant get both.
I guess you'll have to go stick with,
Insanity

xx. Like a whirlwind of force, his back legs strode up as he jumped out victoriously with a rabit in mouth. Blood trickled down the rabits back, as the maple honey colored dog has stolen it from another. Cruel, you may say. But truth is? Its life. Normal things for normal dogs. Clamped deeth refused to let go, as he looked around to see anyone who might figure to steel his new treasure. Savage. Although the golden male wasnt on of the blood suckers, he needed food. And steeling was one way to get it. Although, he had to stop and ask himself, couldnt I have gotten it from my own good deads? By earning it, or catching it myself? Nah. This was good enough for now. His name was Insanity, not meaning he was insane. He was charming, clever, and elegant. Handsom. Yes. But please, if you will, reffer to this male as Sane. His toned body pad forward as noises where heard from where he was near. With intrest, he moves himself forward, holding back the urge to rip into the dead animal. Although, Sane didnt want to step into the mere light.

xx. Heartbroken Sanity. Blake was his homie, lover and friend. A lover until the end, but she was taken back short by a cruel power of light. Sane never actually saw it happen. He saw her in a flash- then she was gone, and he was running away scared. He was heartbroken by it. Truthfully, he saught himself to be a coward. Sane knew he wasnt. It was just hard, 'ye know? Standing as he heard some muffled sounds, voices, maybe? Taking off with the limp rabit carcass flinging around, Sane jumped. And saw a male, whom seemed semi frightened under a truck. And then suddenly, he heard a cuss, and Sane tilted his head in semi-confusion. Why was she cussing? Anywho, golden male turned back to the male. Sitting momentarily. Who was this inderesting figure? Twisted in mind, Sane became calmed and semi less tense. But then, his song came on. Ah, ha. The words he created ramed through his mind. He smirked, but came to reality. Creaking his feet forward. He moved uneasilly around in full view. Large body. As he watched seeing the male. Deciding to speak, was the same female. Sane came near, and set to rabit down, pushing it forward.

"Please, sir, madam. I am Insanity. Please call me Sane...is something wrong?"

The ground felt soft and supple under the mottled toes of the Gordon Setter. His powerful nose twitched and took in the various scents in the air around him. The smell of spring and fresh rainfall filled him with a quiet joy. He wagged his tail, and the long feathers of black hair dangling off it swayed gentle in the slight breeze. Dark eyes scanned the vibrant green landscape with a slight admiration. When he blinked, he could just barely feel the tougher skin of his scar dragging down over his right eye. The feeling no longer bothered him like it used to, but he still noticed it every now and then. It was a reminder to him. A reminder about past mistakes that he would never again commit in the future. A small smile twitched at his rusty red lips. He looked across the fields again. They seemed to flow on in and endless serenity. A beautiful balance of green reflected on the white windmills and across the pale fences. It was a nice view, certainly different from the dark city streets that he was so used to. He couldn't really complain, if anything, the smell was a whole lot nicer. Also, it was so much more open. There was so much room! So many places to see and explore. So many places to just live. Be free. To taste that freedom on your tongue and embrace it with your heart and soul.

He moved down the slight slope at a graceful trot. He used all of his senses to absorb everything around him. It was nice, peaceful, relaxing. A much needed break from the hustle and bustle that he was so used to. It was so quiet. His ears twitched trying to hear anything but the wind and soft droplets of rain. One noise did catch his attention, and he turned and moved that way. Snuffling at the fence, he recognized a faint scent blown to him on the wind. Sheep. So distinct, yet so similar to the many other herbivores that humans kept. Eck. Humans. He turned away from the fence with a disgruntled scowl on his face. The male was happy that they'd all started to go crazy and eat each other. They deserved it for the way they treated other kinds of life. Inconsiderate fools. Life was not just trash to be abused and tossed away like week old leftovers! All of it was precious and beautiful. Delicate as butterfly wings. Full of fire, and light, and hope. The male chuckled darkly at his light and happy comparisons. There was certainly more to life than light and hope. Each form of it had its own dark side. Trees may suck the pollutants out of the air, but their shady leaves prevented other plants from growing underneath them. Every form of life was a silent killer. Some were just more noticeable than others. Some were much more loud and obnoxious about their killings. Some things like...

A yelp caught his attention. Ears pricked, he instinctively lifted up his left paw. Cocking his head to the side, he didn't hear any other sounds. Gathering his long legs underneath him, the black and chestnut dog jumped into a run. He moved recklessly next to the fence, and as the poles flashed on by him he could hear a whooshing of the air. Finally the male skid to a stop. Mud dug into his paw pads and slowed him down. Had it been a dry day, dust would have kicked up behind him. Brown spotted eyebrows rose as he glanced around warily. What had he just heard? His right eye was the first to catch it, which surprised him to no end as his sight in that eye wasn't as good. Under a faded yellow vehicle coward a dog. He turned his head to try and better make it out when another sound caught his attention. Was that a... bear? So close to civilization? Interesting... He turned his head to look, but didn't see the creature. He wondered what was happening for no more startling noises reached his curly black ears. Had he just thought that this place had been lonely and peaceful? No, it was an absolute madhouse! He plopped his butt down onto the soft grass to watch the proceedings. A tan dog had appeared now, and the male began to wonder if it was all wacky coincidence or if any of the three knew each other. Curious, but not quite ready to lose any vital organs, the male decided to sit out for a minute until he could better figure out what was going on.

x. The earth under the huge black and tan's paws was rough. It was the kind of earth that was constantly treaden upon, with no sun or rain to rejuvinate it. Twigs and stones pushed against his fleshy black paw-pads. They felt rough and difficul to ignore. Adding the fact that in order to fit under the truck, Ridley had to crouch down very far, it only made his hideout even more uncomfortable and awkward.

Ridley felt that the danger had not yet died and convincng himself that he'd seen worse, he stayed where it was safe. Sure, not fun, but life was all about sacrifice, true, no? He looked to his left, the fence was right beside him and it smelled like fear. He looked to his right and in the far-off distance his fear-dilated pupils snagged the sight of a huge black animal. A lemon-colored figure was jumping at it, but as for identities, Ridley could not decifer. He watched as the lemon figure flew into the air only to be shot down by the black figure. Ridey looked away for a moment before stealing another glance. The orange figure was thrown against a tree just before its limp body warded the black creature away.

Ridley sighed a deep breath. The scent of danger had long since faded and his legs were starting to tingle. Ridley hesitantly decided to expose himself to the light again. The sun directly hit his eyes, making him squint and flinch away. Ridley growled and then slowly opened his dark brown eyes, letting them adjust to the light. The scent of dog overflowed his nose. As he swung his huge black and tan head around, his earring swung around, rubbing against his ear. It was annoying, but there really wasn't much he could do. Ridley's eyes took in three dogs around him. He felt confused. How did he attract so much attention?

A distict female voice floated through Ridley's ears. "Whar...ye Ah'm fine. Ye se misseh, a smart dog knaws courage but a wise dog knaws cowr'dice. Life and death ye know?" Ridley groaned, still getting used to the light and the crowd. It wasn't long after he spoke when a male's voice creeped into Ridley's ears. His now well-adjusted eyes pinpointed the source, a Golden Retriever. He seemed to be adressing both himself and the female. "Awrrr suh Insan'ty ar unh Sane. Don reckon ah knaw where ye come from but ah dun see no resson to be goin' off with yer name like assa! Assa!" Ridley looked away, scanning his surroundings again. The two golden dogs were presenting themselves to him, but one black dog was watching without a word. Ridley growled, out of confusion and not aggression.

"Aaanyway why're all yer arses hauled up here then, mm? Is there some sorta bonny goin' on or what? Ah'm confused. Up here for the yows or what? If yer all up here for the yows yer in for a sup'rise 'cause in thur's a shep'd 'n he'll skin yer arses and blast yer lugs off afore ye can squeak outta bark." Ridley sat down, his tail swiping arcoss the grass. He yawned, displaying his valliant fangs that had been used in many a battle before. The roof of his mouth was pink like his tongue only there were a couple black-pigmented spots.

Ridley examined the dogs around him. He was the largest of the four. The Golden Reriever didn't seem much of a threat, plus his mouth was stuffed with the carcass of a hare. The other male who had markings much like his own was simply biding his time. Ridley's head shifted to the female but he had to drag his eyes off the setter. The female was a prety little thing. Her silken pelt was a sweet gold and her eyes were a dazzling blue. Ridley smelled blood and was worried. Her whole flank was doused in crimson. "Eyyy lasseh, you should be the one fussed up. Were ye the dog 'tacked b'the tyrn't upp'n the hill?"

[xx] "Please, sir, madam. I am Insanity. Please call me Sane...is something wrong?" Unlike other dogs, Maine was quite unwilling to give out her name in any normal sentence, and was quite uncomfortable with even giving out her name. Odd, right? Well, for whatever reason, she still disapproved of telling her name, so she smiled cautiously and thumped her tail on the ground. Taking in a good scent, she realized that she was actually the only female here, and actually felt quite proud of herself. Well, not for the fact that she had accidentally stumbled over two males, but for the fact that she was able to talk to them without slipping up. Or, well, so she hoped. "Whar...ye Ah'm fine. Ye se misseh, a smart dog knaws courage but a wise dog knaws cowr'dice. Life and death ye know?" She grinned, only half of her lip pulling up into quite an attractive smile, for a dog such as herself.

[xx] "Awrrr suh Insan'ty ar unh Sane. Don reckon ah knaw where ye come from but ah dun see no resson to be goin' off with yer name like assa! Assa!" Maine then turned towards the other dog, who was named Sane and grinned a shy grin. She never actually took time to glance at him, but found the male golden more attractive then scary, and decided to not fear him. For fear stopped her from many things. Oh coarse, most of her fear was inside her head, causing her to fret more then needed. The scent of male drifted casually through her flared nose and snapped her head to where the scent was, the fur on her back rising, just in case this other male was a threat. Peeking into the shadows, her lip twitched and she saw the faint outline of another dog. So her nose didn't fail her, and this dog wasn't a bear, it was actually a dog.

[xx] "Aaanyway why're all yer arses hauled up here then, mm? Is there some sorta bonny goin' on or what? Ah'm confused. Up here for the yows or what? If yer all up here for the yows yer in for a sup'rise 'cause in thur's a shep'd 'n he'll skin yer arses and blast yer lugs off afore ye can squeak outta bark." Her ears perked at the last part of the male dog's confusing speech and she turned back to him, thinking and trying to remember if there was a shepherd over where she had been. "Nawww, this is all'er coincidence ya see, i was'a just wanderin' and happen'd upon ya guys. Whass yoh name?" She referred the last question to the black and tan male and then took in a sharp breath of air. The breeze swiftly flying by, into her wound. Her eyes closed as she tried to resist swallowing the hare hanging from Sane's mouth which was so unbearably tempting, she had no idea how she would be able to hide the fact that she was starving anymore. Her stunning blue eyes gazed out into the open and then she let her smile fade away.

[xx] "Eyyy lasseh, you should be the one fussed up. Were ye the dog 'tacked b'the tyrn't upp'n the hill?" Apparently, he had seen her little slip up with the damn bear. "Uhh, fuck. Yeee, and et herts. Lyke hell. Hahhaa. Sorry ya had to see thaaat." it was pretty funny how she slipped up on most words, except when she cussed. It was still bleeding too, and a-lot, meaning that she was losing quite a bit of blood. Half of her side was drenched in the red liquid, and she often closed her eyes to try and surmise the pain. But, sadly, it wasn't working. Maine soon then began to feel dizzy, and closed her eyes and lowered her head to the ground. Pain. What was with that word that made her cringe in fear? She was afraid of pain, and never wanted anything painful to ever happen. Although you couldn't deny her eyes, which were quite sad looking at the moment, she was currently leaning over and coughing, then licking her chops and taking in a breath. "I'm okay. I'm okay." She repeated, while her mid yelled at her for lying. Liar.

Volke.

BURN ALL THE CANDLES OUT
MAKE A WISH BUT NOT ALOUD.

RE-LIVE THE HERE AND NOW
TO SEE YOU NOW AND THEN!

OOC -- Not my best, but not terrible. It was sort of hard to skip Sane, so I feel like my post is rather vague.
Word Count -- 820

The dog's eyes trailed over the events as if he was studying for some test. It was extremely confusing and he didn't want to jump into anything and look like a fool. Of course, hanging like a shadow by the fence wasn't helping the whole fool image out. They probably thought he was mentally challenged or something. "Whar...ye Ah'm fine. Ye se misseh, a smart dog knaws courage but a wise dog knaws cowr'dice. Life and death ye know?" A scowl formed on his dark lips as he turned his head slightly to take in the sight of the dog with black and brown markings that had just spoken... well, sort of spoke. The male had heard enough accents to get most of what was being said, but the dialect wasn't really one he'd heard before. He circulated the words a couple times, tossing them back and forth. Cowardice. He didn't completely agree with the other dog. He thought that courage was much more important than cowardice for survival. How would you ever be able to do anything if you were always afraid? Mind focused harder on the other words being said. At mention of the Sheppard he turned to look at the very fence he was sitting next to. He had smelled the sheep, and very faintly the Sheppard that was being spoken of, but it wasn't like the Sheppard was out blasting his gun into the hills at that moment. The place was fairly quiet except for the dogs and one grumpy black bear.

The conversation ensued and he caught his attention fading off to the distant calls of birds and the sound of the wind in the grass. Air-head. He scolded himself silently. The setter was so used to the hefty bustle of the city that the country crap was putting him to sleep. He needed a faster pace to keep his mind occupied. When the cussing and other conversation seemed to have ended, the male rose to his feet. Taking his time, he shook the matted leaves out of his crisp, black coat. A crooked smile curled its way up his face and he stepped out of the shadow of the fence. "Heh. I don't know what you're talking about. I haven't sensed hide nor hair of this so called Sheppard. He has better things to do than waste his bullets on our asses, I can tell you that much." Snorting softly, he took a few more steps toward the female. The red dribbling down her coat was bothering him. It reminded him of his own scars, and touched a soft spot in his heart. He knew what that pain was like. He could feel the scar that hideously gorged its way down his eye as he watched her squeeze her own shut. How badly had the bear gotten her? Was it just a lot of blood or was the wound actually life threatening? Did it matter? The male was just glad that the bear had lost interest. Even four dogs, no matter their experience, couldn't fight off a full grown bear.

The Gordon Setter moved toward her, watching the other dogs carefully. He didn't want to get jumped. The thought that he might if he did something wrong twitched at the back of his mind. Normally he loved a good brawl, the more the better, but at that moment he was more concerned with something else. When he was a good five feet away he stopped and cocked his head slightly, studying the gash in her side. The male clucked his tongue a couple times. "I have to congratulate you, those are some fine wounds. However, I don't think feeding the grass your blood will help you recover very fast." He paused a moment, taking a glance around. He scanned the other three dogs with his left eye, and tried to keep them all in view at once. It was difficult though, and he huffed a curse at his stupidity underneath his breath where no one could hear. Stupid eye. He hated the slightly fuzzy line that ran down the middle of his vision. "My name's Volke if you're wondering." He flashed a small smile, white fangs barely visible underneath the brown fur on his lips. "I'd be willing to help you out, if you want. Wouldn't want you dying here and becoming some "Sheppard's" feast now would we, eh?" A small corner of his mind wondered how immensely stupid it was to mock the dog with the strange accent, but how could he not? The words had come out, and he wasn't taking them back. Plus, he needed some amusement for the day before he went insane.

x. The wind was whipping at a faster pace now and even the short and slick black and tan coat of Ridley Devel blew, even if it was only slight. Dark brown eyes observed the giant mills. He didn't quite understand what use spinning in circles was. When he spun in circles himself he never got anywhere. All that did was hurt his ankles and make him lose direction. What use could they be?

Ridley started to remember something. The beige extremities of the mills turned red and blue and purple, but only to his eyes. He remembered walking off of the area of one of his battles. His own pelt was bloody and battered. He could feel crimson drops streaking down his leg. Red touched black, then dripped onto tan. But more, he turned away from the bloodied lifeless body of his opponent. He remembered the cheering and praise. The camera flashes. And then a little boy holding a pinwheel. He blew and it spun around and around... Like the windmills...

Quote:
Maine "Nawww, this is all'er coincidence ya see, i was'a just wanderin' and happen'd upon ya guys. Whass yoh name?"

The odd female's voice caught Ridley off-guard and scared off his flashback. Still in a slight daze, the large Beauceron wasn't able to gather his voice before he heard a second voice.

Quote:
Volke "Heh. I don't know what you're talking about. I haven't sensed hide nor hair of this so called Sheppard. He has better things to do than waste his bullets on our asses, I can tell you that much."

Ridley growled, only with a slight bit of anger. The black and tan dog, marked much like himself, hadn't attracted much attention until now. "Ye donno what the humans do to dogs, hinny. If you'd seen m'past you'd know what they do." Ridley looked away, his heart paging. His owner left him...betrayed him... The tiniest growl slid through his tight-closed lips. "Go'n there'n the farmer'll think yer out to eat up his yows. Hell yee he'll shoot." Ridley pulled his eyes off the male to look at the pretty long-haired female. She had begun to speak, wincing in pain from the dripping wound. It hit the grass, staining the wet soil underneath. From dark brown to burgundy.

Quote:
Maine "Uhh, fuck. Yeee, and et herts. Lyke hell. Hahhaa. Sorry ya had to see thaaat."
Volke "I have to congratulate you, those are some fine wounds. However, I don't think feeding the grass your blood will help you recover very fast."

Ridley growled, but only slightly. Again the black and tan setter had stolen his chance to speak. Theif. Ridley let the predominantly black dog speak then gathered his own words. "Naw, M'sorry I didn't go to help misseh. And you," He said, looking at the setter in his second sentence. "Scars are nothin' to be proud've, just a mark'a th' past'n that's it. Shows the pain'n all you've been though." Ridley looked back into the blue eyes of the female. Radiant eyes. "But he's gotta point. Better doc yerself up'r there won't be much left'a ye." Ridley still stayed sitting, the wind tickling his sharp-edged cropped ears. He looked at his own scars, etched across his chest and his front legs. He had never looked at them as trophies. Sure, everyone would comment on a new one after a recent fight, but Ridley usually looked over the comment. They were just a part of him, taken for granted just like the tan marks on his pelt. Ridley didn't like looking at his scars. Nothing to be proud of, maybe hated. They reminded him of the dog fights. The pain, the adrenaline, the blood, the spit. And slit jugulars. An experience not worth replaying over in his mind. It was all quiet now, and so still. But Volke soon broke the quiet. Ridley sent out a silent, invisible thanks. Something he didn't even expect himself.

Quote:
Volke "My name's Volke if you're wondering. I'd be willing to help you out, if you want. Wouldn't want you dying here and becoming some "Sheppard's" feast now would we, eh?"

Ridley completely missed that the dog was mocking him. It didn't really matter though, he was used to it. Ridley flinched a bit when he heard sheep's cries and the stomping of feet. The sheep were stomping back inside the barn. Smells leaked out from the foolishly unlatched barn doors. They smelled musky like any farm animal but Ridley could smell their meat. Deep under their fleece... He was starving right now and would probably do just about anything for some food. ...But maybe not hunt sheep, for fear of the farmer's gun.
Then another shock, Ridley heard a door open quietly then slam shut. Ridley yipped, a higher bark than one would expect from a big deep-voiced dog like him. Ridley loped around the truck to see a tall, but kind of smelly human coming out of the door. He was coming this way. The farmer squeezed something in his hand and the rusty truck reacted with a beep, a sound not foreign to Ridley. His heart started beating faster. "Eyy, the shepp'd's goin' out. Fig'r if we go inside the fence he can't see us. And then when he's gone mebby we c'n kill off a yow'r two and fill our stomachs." Not waiting for an answer, Ridley flattened himself against the ground and uncomfortably pushed himself through the fence. The fence was high and dense so as long as they stayed close to the perimeter of the inside, the farmer wouldn't be able to see the four dogs and as soon as he was gone, it would be free reign for the motley crew.

Inside, Ridley pushed his snout into the slat to keep it open for the other dogs. With Ridley being biggest and being able to fit nonetheless, the other dogs should fit without trouble. "If yer wit' me c'mon in. And if yer not ye better hurry off a'fore th' farmer's spots ye."

IN THE NIGHT, I HEAR 'EM TALK, THE COLDEST STORY EVER TOLD I SOMEWHERE FAR ALONG THIS ROAD
HE LOST HIS SOUL
TO A WOMAN SO HEARTLESS. HOW COULD YOU BE SO HEARTLESS?

- - - - - - - - - -

[xx] The other dog had finally chosen to show himself, and he turned out looking a whole lot like the first male she had met, what was his name again..? Oh, yes - Ridley. And then the other's, which looked like him, but maybe a different breed, just the same markings. The male by the calling of Volke had a longer coat, and thinner looking legs. All together, it looked as if Volke was used for endurance, and was a speedy runner, and Ridley was stronger, since his muscles were well built, and used for fighting. She could also tell that he had been in a couple of tiffs from all of his scars, and how much he was unwilling to brag about them.

[xx] "Naw, M'sorry I didn't go to help misseh. And you," Ridley spoke to Maine, and then directed his second sentence to Volke, who was just saying that she would have quite some nice scars on her body after she healed a bit. "Scars are nothin' to be proud've, just a mark'a th' past'n that's it. Shows the pain'n all you've been though." He then stared into Maine's eyes and she let her smirk gnaw up the sides of her jaws. Then Ridley continued, showing others why it truly sucked to be a stray. Who could help you? "But he's gotta point. Better doc yerself up'r there won't be much left'a ye."

[xx] Blue eyes fell to the ground and then she stared at the small puddle of blood below her lower body and drops fell more frequent then a small downpour. Her head leaned down to stare at the small black creatures, lined up while trying to avoid her massive spill. Ants. And soon other animals would come to eat her body up, for Maine knew she wasn't going to make it through this. It was pretty obvious, she was bleeding a shit load. She had quite a talkative conscience at the moment, yelling at her that it was quite wrong to be around males when she was this weak, and she was still cautious, her tail tucked under her rump for when she stood up.

[xx] Finally, she looked up from where she had been thinking, staring at the small group of ants treading around her spilled blood, and let out a cough, closing her eyes and feeling her body move forward violently. "Doc myself up?" She questioned his statement with eyes full of pain from her last cough, "An' do ya reeely think tha' some person woul' wanna hep me?" Actually, when you think about it, most of the strays died only because of injuries, or sicknesses that could have easily been cured if they were house pets. "It's stupid how we gotta depen' on humans like this." She let out a sigh and then closed her eyes, feeling the crimson liquid escape her side. Oh, pain. how she hated the pain she was forced to go through at the moment. And what she would do to get rid of it.

[xx] her breathing became ragged as her chest heaved up and down, and her eyes closed with each painful breath she took. "Eyy, the shepp'd's goin' out. Fig'r if we go inside the fence he can't see us. And then when he's gone mebby we c'n kill off a yow'r two and fill our stomachs." Ridley then got down and began to creep up to the animals, probably expecting Volke, Sane, and possibly her to follow. Maine simply sat there, her chest moving up and down while her eyes scanned his body. Trying to pull her self away from his figure, she closed her eyes and let out a moan, covering up her staring with fake pain.

[xx] Although she was in pain, she was able to side track her pain factor while staring at the males around her. "If yer wit' me c'mon in. And if yer not ye better hurry off a'fore th' farmer's spots ye." Instantly, her eyes widened, but not enough so you could see all of the color, and her pupils were still severely dilated. She slowly crouched down and laid her sable colored body in the long grass, hoping that her coat wouldn't give her away. Although she was scared, for one of the males had left her, and she had a feeling the others were going to leave her also, she wasn't going to be needy and ask for one of them to stay with her. If they didn't want to keep her company she was going to be okay with it.

[xx] Her head frantically moved, from Sane to Volke, wondering if they were going to watch the other male and follow his lead, or stay with her.
